Students Of BJB College In Bhubaneswar Stage Dharna Against Police Inaction On Outsiders

Bhubaneswar: The students of BJB Autonomous College in Bhubaneswar on Friday staged a dharna in protest against police inaction on non-students who are creating disturbances in the campus.

The agitating students alleged that Badgada police station in the city was following a partisan attitude towards them. Instead of taking action against the outsiders who were involved in violence in the campus, the police were targeting the students, they claimed.

Speaking to the media, Smruti Ranjan Panda, one of the agitators, said some non-students had entered the college campus and attacked some students on November 14. But they were overpowered and handed over to Badagada Police. But the police booked some innocent students instead of taking any action against the outsiders invilved in the violence, he added.

He further said they will take to streets if their demand is not fulfilled. If that fails to elicit any action against Badagada Police, the students would resort to mass self-immolation, he threatened.

It may be noted that the students had staged a demonstration on the road in front of the college on November 23 after the police had picked up Smruti from the campus the night before. They claimed that the former student had come to the college for some test and then went to attend a function as a guest when police reached the campus and took him away.
