Angul: A shocking incident of torture to discipline students has come to light at a coaching centre in Chhendipada area of Odisha’s Angul district. A video showing the coaching center tutor punishing students has gone viral on social media.
The video, which has raised serious concerns about the wellbeing of students, has triggered widespread outrage among people.
The incident was reported at a coaching center located in Sapoisahi area under the jurisdiction of Chhendipada police station of the district.
Sources said the coaching centre provides extra classes for students, aiding their studies, and preparing them for various competitive examinations. The coaching center reportedly forces students to wake up at 3 am in the morning and study.
Some students failed to wake up at 3 am on Thursday and the owner of the coaching centre thrashed them with a stick. The video of the incident has gone viral.
After the video went viral the local administration swung into action.
On the direction of the District Child Protection Officer, Childline and Child Welfare Committee have conducted an enquiry into the incident. Childline has filed a written complaint in this regard at the Chhendipada police station.
Childline officials and police visited the coaching centre and are investigating the matter.
