Sunny Deol ‘Missing’ Posters Appear In Pathankot; Know Why
Pathankot: Actor-politician Sunny Deol is in the news. In fact, he is ‘missing’.
There are allegations against the Member of Parliament from Punjab’s Gurdaspur that he has rarely visited his constituency after winning the 2019 general elections on a BJP ticket.
Hence, ‘Missing’ posters of Deol have surfaced in Pathankot. The posters, headlined ‘gumshuda ki talash (search for missing)’, have been pasted on walls of several houses, railway stations and vehicles in the city.
Local people are so angry that they are demanding the resignation of Deol if he does not want to work.
“After becoming the MP, he never visited Gurdaspur. He calls himself the son of Punjab, but he hasn’t brought any industrial development, has not allocated MP funds or brought any central government scheme here.. If he doesn’t want to work, he should tender his resignation,” ANI quoted a protester as saying.
The 64-year-old Deol, who delivered several blockbuster hits in the 1980s and 90s, has been inviting criticism from several quarters since becoming MP. His last visit to the Gurdaspur-Pathankot region was in September 2020, when he met senior officials to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues.
With anger growing among farmers against the now-repealed farm laws during that time, Deol avoided reaching out to general public.
He also did not campaign for candidates of BJP and its allies during the Punjab assembly elections earlier this year. BJP and Congress were routed by Aam Aadmi Party, which swept to power in Punjab for the first time.
