Bhubaneswar: Amid enhanced security at all vital installations in view of escalated India-Pakistan tension, a suspicious bag was found at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Friday
While the discovery of the unclaimed bag created panic at the terminal premises, the airport security forces swung into action and took immediate steps to handle the situation.
As per security protocols, the security personnel called the Bomb Disposal Squad as well as Dog Squad to examine the abandoned bag.
Sources said the bag was spotted in a public area of the airport by alert staff members, who immediately informed the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The entire area was cordoned off and passengers evacuated from there as a precautionary measure.
While no explosive material was detected, the airport authorities have urged passengers to remain calm and report any unattended luggage or suspicious activity. Flyers have also been requested to cooperate with ongoing security checks and remain patient during temporary delays.
Airport operations, though briefly affected in the concerned zone, continued without major disruptions in other parts of the terminal.
However, it was later found that the bag belonged to a female traveller who had arrived in Bhubaneswar from Hyderabad. No dangerous object was found in the bag, sources said.
