Tamil Nadu Asks Centre Not To Start Flights Till May 31

There has been a spurt in COVID-19 positive cases in Chennai and there aren't enough transport facilities during the lockdown.

New Delhi: In view of the spurt in coronavirus cases in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu government has asked the Central government not to restart flights in the state till May 31. Besides, there isn’t enough public transport in Chennai because of the lockdown.

Domestic flights are set to resume from Monday. They will initially operate from the metros. “We are yet to hear from the civil aviation ministry,” a senior officer told NDTV.

“Other airports in Tamil Nadu will also not be allowed to function said because a bulk of passengers would be Chennai-bound and we have yet to make transport arrangements to bring them to Chennai,” the officer added.
