Ten Detained For 200 Rounds Of Blank Firing At Coal Washery In Odisha’s Sundargarh

Sundargarh: Ten persons have been detained in connection with an alleged firing incident after a group clash at Garjanbahal coal washery under Hemgiri police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district late on Thursday.

According to sources, over 200 rounds were fired in the air and bombs were hurled over suspected rivalry between two business partners at the coal washery. The opposing parties, who were from bordering Raigarh and Sundargarh, allegedly clashed, carrying iron rods and swords, over ownership of the facility. Six persons were injured in the incident. While some injured were admitted to Raigarh hospital, one was rushed to district headquarters hospital here with serious head injury.

The washery was vandalised and several vehicles were also damaged.

“Last night a clash erupted between two parties at a coal washery. Two youths of Sundargarh have been shifted to a Raigarh-based hospital for treatment. A police team from Odisha has reached Chhattisgarh to interrogate the injured. An investigation is underway and necessary action will be taken,” SDPO Himanshu Bhusan Behera told reporters.
