Berhampur: A postgraduate student of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Berhampur was injured after being allegedly assaulted by senior residents in the hostel. The PG student has lodged a complaint at Baidyanathpur Police Station in the city, sources said.
In his complaint, the PG student has accused around five of his senior residents of having physically assaulted him. While the exact nature of the incident is still unclear, the authorities are conducting an investigation to gather details to ascertain the sequence of events.
As per the police complaint, the incident took place on the hostel premises. It was alleged that the complainant was subjected to a physical assault by a group of seniors. Police said they are collecting evidence and testimonies from those involved in the incident.
The college authorities have also initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the alleged incident.
Sources said a meeting of the coordination panel is slated to be held at the medical college on Monday to thoroughly examine the issue. The college authorities are now questioning those involved in the incident. Residents and fellow students staying in the hostel have been advised to maintain discipline and peace.
The incident comes close on the heels of a row triggered by ragging on medical college campus recently. Some students were debarred from the hostel after they were found guilty of ragging juniors.
