Bengaluru: Tension mounted in Karnataka’s Shivamogga after a 26-year-old member of right-wing group Bajrang Dal was stabbed to death late on Sunday night.
Police have been deployed in large numbers following incidents of arson and public gatherings have been restricted by the administration. Schools and colleges in the district will also remain closed for now.
The murder kicked off a political slugfest with state minister KS Eshwarappa making communally charged statements and accusing the Opposition Congress of “giving courage to Muslim goons”.
“Muslim goons have killed him. (State Congress president) DK Shivakumar’s provocative statements have given courage to Muslim goons. This goondagiri won’t be tolerated,” Eshwarappa said while speaking to the media over the murder of Harsha, who worked as a tailor.
According to NDTV, a police officer has denied reports that the killing of Harsha is linked to the ongoing controversy over students wearing hijab on campus.
