Threads: Meta’s New Platform Has 5 Million Sign-Ups Within 4 Hours Of Launch
New Delhi: Threads, Meta’s new platform, saw 5 million sign-ups within just four hours of launch today. “Threads just passed 2 million sign ups in the first two hours,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted. “Just passed 5 million sign ups in the first four hours…,” he posted in the update.
Opinions are sharply divided on whether Threads will outperform Twitter. Responding to a question on whether Threads can become bigger than Twitter, Zuckerberg said, “It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it. Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully we will.”

Earlier, he introduced Threads as an “open and friendly public space for conversation”. He added that the idea is to “take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience”.
“Our vision is to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience for text, ideas, and discussing what’s on your mind. I think the world needs this kind of friendly community, and I’m grateful to all of you who are part of Threads from day one. Threads is available in the app store now,” he said.
The Meta CEO shared a meme, showing a man dressed as Spiderman pointing at another. The image is from the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon “Double Identity” in which a villain attempts to impersonate the hero.

What is Threads?
Threads, from Facebook and Instagram’s parent company, Meta, is the latest social media app to challenge Twitter. Threads is a new text-based social media platform that launch today, July 6, according to Apple’s app store, where it’s currently listed.
“Say more with Threads — Instagram’s text-based conversation app,” the description of the app reads in Apple’s app store.
“Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow. Whatever it is you’re interested in, you can follow and connect directly with your favourite creators and others who love the same things — or build a loyal following of your own to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world.”
How to download the app?
Threads is scheduled to be available for download from the Apple app store today, according to a listing in the app store. It is also listed in the Google Play store.
How do you create a Threads account?
Threads’ listing in the app store shows potential users can use their existing Instagram account to log in to Threads. It does not indicate another way to create an account.
