Mumbai: The office of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ritu Tawde received a bomb threat email on Friday, reportedly naming Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh and several schools in Mumbai.
According to police, an outfit identifying itself as the Khalistan National Army (KNA) claimed responsibility for the threat.
The email was received by the mayor’s office at around 11:30 am, following which police conducted security checks. No suspicious activity was found.
Addressing the incident, Mumbai Police Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Manish Kalwaniya said, “A threat mail was received at BMC office, checking has been done and nothing suspicious was found.”
Police suspect the KNA could be the same outfit that has allegedly sent hoax threat emails over the past few months.
The latest email reportedly threatened to target the mayor’s office at 3 pm, schools at 1 pm, and Amitabh Bachchan’s Jalsa bungalow in Juhu.
The threats were said to cover the period from October 31 to November 27.
