Three Of Family Held For Brutal Murder In Odisha’s Ganjam
Berhampur: More than a month after a decomposed body was recovered from the Rushilkulya river bed at Soroda in Ganjam district, police on Saturday arrested three members of a family for the alleged brutal murder.
SDPO, Aska, Uma Shankar Singh identified the accused as Kabiraj Nayak, his wife Kishori Nayak and daughter Juli Nayak.
He said the deceased, Bhagaban Nayak of Gudidhipa village, shared a strained relationship with his wife Juli, whom he suspected of having an illicit relationship. They frequently quarrelled over this issue. Unable to bear the mental and physical torture, Juli shifted to a rented house at Pushpanagar in Soroda.
“The incident took place on May 18 when Bhagaban went see his two children at Pushpanagar. There was a heated altercation between him and his wife, who later called his parent and plotted to kill Bhagaban. Late in the night, Kabiraj attacked his son-in-law with an axe killing him on the spot. Later, the trio took the body to the Rushkulya riverbank and buried it after severing the head,” the SDPO said.
The body was recovered on May 22 after locals complained to police about a foul smell emanating from the riverbed.
“In course of the investigation, police identified the body and interrogated his wife who confessed to the crime,” he added.
Stating that the police have seized the murder weapon, the SDPO said that the accused will be forwarded to the court later in the day.
