Jajpur: The toll in the Kharasrota river tragedy in Odisha’s Jajpur district mounted to six on Sunday with the body of another youth being recovered from the water body by an ODRAF team, which resumed the rescue operation after it was halted on Saturday night owing to low light.
The deceased has been identified as Biswajit Jena.
Seven youths were swept away in the river at Badasuanar village while they were taking bath after playing colours on Friday afternoon. While locals had recovered one body, two more bodies were fished out the same day following a search operation. Another person was rescued and admitted to the district headquarters hospital. He was later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
One more body was fished out on Saturday morning and another in the afternoon.
The rescued youth, identified as Amit Jena, was discharged from the hospital, last night.
The locals said the boys went to the river to take bath after playing Holi.
“As they were taking a bath in the river after playing Holi, they noticed that one of them is drowning in the river. So my nephew tried to rescue his friend. One by one all of them drowned in a bid to rescue others. At last, my son went to rescue and he also drowned in the river,” the father of one of the boys, Satya Chandra Jena, said.
