Top Bureaucrat In India Tests Positive For COVID-19

New Delhi: A portion of South Block on the Raisina Hill complex in Delhi was sealed after Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

The 1985-batch IAS officer was at the forefront in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in India.

According to a report published in the Hindustan Times, Kumar got himself tested for COVID-19 after developing mild fever and was found to be infected.

“He tested positive on Tuesday. His condition is stable and he will stay at home till he tests negative,” the report quoted a person as saying. He is is under home quarantine.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and many top Ministry of Defence officers did not attend office as first-floor section of the South Block were sanitised on Wednesday. 

Defence ministry spokesperson A Bharat Bhushan Babu, however, refused to say anything on the matter to the media. Confirming that Singh did not go to South Block on Wednesday, the defence minister’s office said “he is not in quarantine” at his official residence.
