New Delhi: Saifullah Khalid, a leading Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative linked to multiple terror attacks in India, has reportedly been killed in Pakistan.
The LeT terrorist was killed in Sindh province, in southeastern Pakistan, sources told India Today TV on Sunday.
Khalid was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near Matli Phalkara Chowk, according to sources.
Khalid was one of the masterminds behind three major attacks on Indian soil — the 2001 CRPF camp assault in UP’s Rampur, 2005 Indian Institute of Science (IISc) attack in Bengaluru, and the 2006 attack on the RSS headquarters in Nagpur.
Carried out over a span of five years, these attacks claimed several lives and marked a signinificant escalation in LeT’s operations in India.
Khalid, who operated under the name of Vinode Kumar, was based in Nepal where he lived many years and married a local woman, Nagma Banu.
He coordinated activities for LeT from Nepal, playing a key role in recruitment and logistics.
Recently, Khalid had shifted base to Matli, in Badin district of Sindh province. He continued working for Lashkar and its front organisation Jamaat-ud-Dawa, his role being recruitment and fund collection for terror operations.
