New Delhi: A fairly powerful earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at 7.05 pm on Saturday.
Moderate to strong tremors were reported from Delhi-NCR, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana.
According to the National Centre of Seismology, the earthquake struck Afghanistan at a depth of 215 km. The location was about 81 km from Kalafgan in northeastern Afghanistan. Tremors were felt across Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage in Afghanistan or India.
Afghanistan, and specifically the Hindu Kush region, is one of the world’s most seismically active areas.
Since Friday, the region has been experiencing seismic activity with at least five quakes of moderate intensity striking Pakistan’s southeastern province of Balochistan.
Two days ago, Venezuela was devastated by twin earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, causing massive damage. The death toll is nearing 1,000 and counting, with more than 51,000 people missing.
