Triple Train Accident: Widow Files Police Complaint Against In-Laws For Taking Away Compensation Money In Balasore
Balasore: A woman, who lost her husband in the triple train accident in Odisha’s Balasore district, has filed a police complaint alleging that her in-laws have forcibly taken the ex gratia amount from her bank account.
As per reports, Gobinda Sahoo of Sugo village under Basudevpur block of the district had died in the train accident that took place near Bahanaga Bazaar railway station on June 2. His wife Bijaylaxmi Sahoo was handed over cheques of Rs 5 lakh by the state government and Rs 9.5 lakh by the Indian Railways as compensation.
Later, the money was allegedly withdrawn by Bijaylaxmi’s father-in-law Rabindra Sahoo from her bank account.
Bijaylaxmi filed a complaint in this regard at Basudevpur police station. In her complaint, she alleged that her parents-in-law tortured her demanding to hand over the compensation money. She had signed on a cheque for withdrawal of money on coercion, she added.
Stating that she needed the money for the education of her only daughter, Bijaylaxmi sought police intervention to help her get back the amount. The police have registered a case and started investigation.
Meanwhile, Rabindra Sahoo refuted the allegations and said the money was withdrawn from Bijayalaxmi’s bank account with her consent to repay a loan taken for performing the last rites of his son and complete their under-construction house.
