Washington: Taking to Truth Social, US President Donald Trump on Sunday commended the National Guard for restoring order after two days of violent protests in Los Angeles. Labelling California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass as ‘incompetent,’ Trump criticized the duo for having failed to handle the protests and broader administrative issues.
“Great job by the National Guard in Los Angeles after two days of violence, clashes and unrest,” Trump posted.
“We have an incompetent Governor (Newscum) and Mayor (Bass) who were, as usual… unable to handle the task,” he wrote. “Just look at how they handled the fires, and now their VERY SLOW PERMITTING disaster. Federal permitting is complete!” he added.
Protesters accused of being paid agitators
Trump also condemned the protestors. He called them ‘Radical Left’. The US President also claimed many protesters were not genuine demonstrators and accused them of being paid instigators.
“These Radical Left protests, by instigators and often paid troublemakers, will NOT BE TOLERATED,” he wrote.
Calls for mask ban
Trump demanded a ban on wearing masks at protests. He questioned the motives behind face coverings. “From now on, MASKS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn at protests. What do these people have to hide, and why???”
‘Trump’s move will only escalate tensions’
Donald Trump has deployed the National Guard to Los Angeles following clashes over raids on undocumented migrants, reported the BBC. LA County Sheriff’s Department said one person had been arrested and several detained following the unrest.
California Governor Gavin Newsom called the move from Trump “purposefully inflammatory”and warned it “will only escalate tensions.”
