Berhampur: A tuition teacher was arrested on charges of abetting the suicide of a minor girl student who ended her life few days back at a village in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The accused has been identified as S Sanatan Reddy (26) of Kandeswar village in Digapahandi area of Ganjam. Another accused tuition teacher, K Loknath Reddy, is on the run and efforts are on to nab him, police said.
As per information, the girl allegedly consumed poison on June 8 in a bid to end life and she died the next day while undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
The matter came to light when the girl’s brother, on examining her phone, notebooks and personal belongings., came to know that she was being exploited by the two tuition teachers on fake promises. He then lodged a complaint with the police against the two tutors.
As per the complaint, the girl joined the tuition classes a year back. He alleged that Sanatan exploited her sexually on the promise of marrying her while Loknath had physical relationship with her multiple times on the pretext of helping her secure good marks in the exams. Both of them took her intimate photos too.
When the girl came to know about their evil designs, she rejected their advances. The two then started threatening to post her private pictures, videos and personal details on social media.
Finding herself helpless due to repeated threats and worried about the family’s reputation, she took the extreme step by consuming poison.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested Sanatan and efforts are underway to nab the other accused, a police official said.
