Two Patients Admitted To ECMO Unit Of Cuttack’s SCB
Cuttack: Two patients, both women, have been admitted to the recently-inaugurated Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) facility at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
A woman from Balangir district was put on the life-saving device on Sunday night.
According to sources, she was admitted to a private hospital of Cuttack after testing positive for COVID-19 and later shifted to the Cardiothoracic Department of SCB in a critical condition late on Sunday.
Notably, the ECMO treatment of a woman of Nishintakoili area of Cuttack district began at the Cardiothoracic ward on Saturday night. The woman afflicted with COVID-19 was admitted to the SCB COVID ward a few days ago. As her condition deteriorated, she was put on ventilator support.
The hospital authorities have formed a team of doctors to identify the patients who need ECMO treatment.
Dedicating nine ECMO machines at the SCB on Friday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had said that the state government will bear all expenses and facilitate ECMO treatment to all critical COVID patients at SCB for free. “We have to remain more cautious to battle the third wave,” he added.
