New Delhi: The quality of PhD thesis for which doctoral degrees have been awarded in the last 10 years by universities across the country is likely to come under the scanner. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided on the move in view of the concern expressed by certain quarters about the deteriorating quality of research in the country and the duplication of subjects on which PhDs are done.
Proposals have been invited to conduct a pan India study, both at the national and state level over a period of six months. Interested parties and groups have been asked to give their proposals.
“The UGC is planning to conduct a study on ”Quality of PhD thesis in Indian universities”. The scope of the study will involve the PhD thesis awarded in different disciplines by various central universities, state universities, state private universities and deemed-to-be universities in last 10 years,” a senior official of the higher education regulator said.
