New Delhi: The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, refused to allow urgent listing of a petition regarding police action against protesters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in Delhi on Monday.
“Don’t waste our time, and don’t waste your time,” Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant told the lawyer who mentioned the matter, as reported by Live Law.
The CJP that has been holding a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, seeking Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation for the NEET UG 2026 paper leak and other irregularities, had called for a “Sansad Chalo” march on Monday, despite refusal of permission by the Delhi Police.
After the protesters started marching towards Parliament on Monday, despite prohibitory orders being in place, the police reacted by using batons and tear gas. Several students and police personnel were injured in the clashes that took place.
When the lawyer said that the students are raising important issues such as proper conduct of the NEET exam, and reforms in the National Testing Agency, the CJI cut him short by saying: “Thank you very much.”
The lawyer then said that there are videos showing police excesses, but the CJI said: “We are not interested in videos; we don’t have time to watch.”
The Delhi High Court had, on Tuesday, refused to urgently hear a similar petition and said: “Don’t drag the Court into this.”
