Tehran: The United States and Israel are working to fracture the Muslim world, Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned on Sunday.
The two countries of watching for the “fragmentation of the Islamic Ummah” as an opportunity to impose dominance over Muslim states, he said.
Describing the US and Israel as adversaries, not just of Iran, but of the broader Muslim Ummah across West Asia and North Africa, Khamenei called on Muslim heads of state to identify and confront their “real enemy”, in the message marking ‘Unity Week’.
The US and Israel are exploiting “racial, cultural, social, economic, political, and geographical differences” among Islamic nations, the Iranian supreme leader said.
Muslim disunity has left the Palestinian people exposed to what he called the crimes of Israeli occupation, he argued.
“Would the Palestinian nation be so defenceless, subjected to the oppression and crimes of the occupiers, if Muslims were united, clenching their fists with strength?” Khamenei said, as reported by timesnow.in.
“And would the nations and governments residing around the Persian Gulf have the courage to let corrupt and identity-less scoundrels from thousands of kilometers away covet their lands and assets if they established their unity under the banner of Islam,” he questioned.
Gulf nations would not tolerate foreign interference in their affairs if they stood united under Islam, he warned.
Khamenei, on Saturday, had called for boosting domestic production and reducing reliance on the US dollar in key transactions as essential steps for building a self-reliant “Resistance Economy”. Iran is poised for more instability as the Trump administration tries to coerce other countries into ending all financial dealings with the Islamic Republic.
In a post on X, he framed economic resilience not merely as a policy choice, but as a mandatory national framework to counter external financial pressure and achieve long-term stability.
“Equally vital is giving special attention to economic growth, boosting production, gradually phasing out the US dollar from playing a pivotal role, and ultimately, making Resistance Economy the central focus,” Khamenei said.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s prime minister and PM and foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, was in Tehran on Thursday as part of the country’s efforts to resolve the conflict between the US and Iran. The visit follows a trip by Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir.
In a post on X, Qatar’s foreign ministry said that Al Thani’s meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi included talks on “the efforts being made to reduce escalation,” as well as a proposed plan between Iran and Oman to allow ships safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and clear the vital commercial waterway of dangerous mines.
The prime minister emphasised the “necessity of respecting the sovereignty of neighbouring countries and the freedom of navigation” through the strait, Al Thani’s office said.
