Washington, DC: Washington state, alongside Alaska, Oregon, Nebraska, and South Dakota, has formally proclaimed January 26 as “Republic Day of India,” celebrating the 77th anniversary of India’s Constitution adoption.
The gesture underlines the growing contributions of Indian Americans and boosts bilateral ties amid India’s Republic Day festivities.
In Washington state governor Bob Ferguson, in the proclamation, highlighted the Indian American community’s impact on science, technology, education, business, arts, and civic life. It focuses on expanding ties in trade, agriculture, clean energy and culture between Washington and India, rooted in shared values of liberty, justice, and democracy. “This day commemorates the adoption of India’s Constitution and honours the world’s largest democracy,” the proclamation states, urging residents to recognize these achievements.
