New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday.
Both BJP and AIIMS have, in a statement, confirmed the news. “As per the advice of the doctors, former PM Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been admitted in AIIMS today for routine check-up and investigations. He will be under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS,” the BJP statement read. Dr Guleria, the current Director of AIIMS, has served as the personal physician of the former Prime Minister for the last three decades.
Vajpayee, known for his oratory skills, is the first person from BJP to serve as the Prime Minister for a full- five-year term. At 93 years, he is the oldest living Prime Minister of India. He has served as the Prime Minister on three occasions in 1996, 1998 and 2004. Vajpayee was conferred with Padma Vibhushan in 1992 and Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2015.
