Malkangiri: With coronavirus cases having been detected in Bonda Hill, how can Motu border in Odisha’s Malkangiri district be far behind?
More than a year after the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, the first case of the infection among Bondas was recorded last month, on April 26, By May 13, it rose to 12.
The Bondas take a forest road to visit a haat in Andhra Pradesh, which the district administration is planning to seal.
Also, an estimated 15,640 migrant labourers travel to Odisha through Motu border, of which 8,000 belong to Malkangiri district.
COVID test is being conducted in the border area. Those labourers who test positive are being admitted to the COVID hospital. For the others, the government has arranged special buses for their travel.
Malkangiri district administration has also arranged buses to send migrant labourers to their native places.
Director General of Police Abhay visited Motu on Saturday to review border security arrangements. He also enquired about the facilities being provided to migrant labourers.
A total of 145 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Malkangiri district in the last 24 hours.
