[Watch] Don’t Miss Watching These Documentaries On OTT Before 2022 Ends

New Delhi: The next two months are bound to make you remain glued to the screen what with exciting and nail-biting documentaries releasing before the end of the year. The content of upcoming documentaries like ‘Fugitive: The Curious Case of Carlos Ghosn’ to ‘In Her Hand’, a story exploring the life of Afghanistan’s first youngest woman mayor, is sure to keep viewers on the edge.

Here are some documentaries that should be on every viewer’s wishlist by year-end.

Fugitive: The Curious Case of Carlos Ghosn on Netflix
It is a deep account of how the former CEO of Nissan and Renault car company Carlos Ghosn saved the companies from going bankrupt and how he was accused of grave financial misconduct. The documentary will also showcase one of the world’s biggest escapes detailing how Ghosn was smuggled out of Japan in a storage chest after his arrest in 2019. Ghosn currently roams as a free man in his homeland Lebanon as it does have an extradition treaty with Japan. BAFTA award-winner filmmaker, Lucy Blakstad, has directed the documentary.

Indian Predator: Murder In A Courtroom on Netflix
This true-crime 2014 narrative explores the story of how Nagpur-based rapist and criminal Akku Yadav was put to death by a bunch of women in court in the presence of authorities, lawmakers and the public. The documentary has first-hand accounts of the events that happened during the time. It shows how a bunch of women walked into the courtroom with sharp objects and knives during Yadav’s bail hearing and beat him to death on the floor of the courtroom. The documentary is directed by Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni.

 

My Mind & Me on Apple TV+
This documentary on global icon Selena Gomez documents six years of her struggle with her mental, physical and emotional health. Gomez struggled with bipolar disorder, a life-threatening auto-immune disorder, organ failure, and professional struggles and went through a hell of a time with the tabloids in the States. Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me is directed by Alek Keshishian. He has also documented Madonna’s journey in the 1991 documentary Truth or Dare.

 

Orgasm Inc.: The Story of One Taste on Netflix

Nicole Daedone, co-founder of OneTatse, an American orgasmic meditation group made statements during her Ted Talks in 2011 and said, “There is a pleasure deficit disorder in this country and the cure is the female orgasm.” Daedone’s wellness company went on to become a huge hit with lakhs of people across the world participating in the workshops, programmes and meditation centres. But before long, the company got embroiled in controversies.

In Her Hands on Netflix

The documentary is the life story of Zarifa Ghafari, who at 26 held became the youngest female mayor in Afghanistan. The documentary us about her struggle in politics, her fight to sustain herself in the Taliban struck the world and her narrow space from death. The documentary is directed by Tamana Ayazi and Marcel Mettelsiefen. It will release on November 16.

 

Ghislaine Maxwell: Filthy Rich on Netflix
In 2020, when Netflix released the documentary of Jeffrey Epstein, an American financer who was found guilty of being a sex offender and a predator, the series also constantly featured Epstein’s aide, Ghislaine Maxwell. While Maxwell was party to Epstein’s scandals and assisted him in all his offences, she did not face consequences in the eyes of law even when Epstein was arrested and prosecuted for his. In an extension to the Epstein story, the makers are now bringing this documentary, highlighting that Maxwell played an accomplice to the sex crimes committed by Epstein and how she concealed her predatory actions. The series is directed by Lisa Bryant and Maiken Baird and will be released on November 25.

 

Sr. on Netflix

Directed by Emmy-nominated director Chris Smith, it narrates the life story of Robert Downey Sr. and his relationship with his son Robert Downey Jr. Downey Sr., who was often called a rebellious filmmaker for his honest depiction of cinema, died of complications from Parkinson’s disease. His son, actor Robert Downey Jr is currently one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Downey Jr recently shared the motion poster of the documentary on his social media page writing, “Sr. is a documentary narrating the story of Robert Downey’s maverick rise in NYC – his crash, burn and redemption in the industry and our relationship in the aftermath.” The documentary will be released on December 2.
