[Watch] Know What IMD DG Has To Say About Possible Cyclone ‘Hamoon’ In Bay Of Bengal, Impact On Odisha
Bhubaneswar: The depression over the Bay of Bengal will further intensify into a deep depression and then a cyclonic storm by Monday, Director General of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said on Sunday.
Under its influence, light to moderate rain is likely to occur in coastal Odisha and West Bengal between October 23 and 25, while sea condition will be rough, the IMD DG told new agency ANI.
Wind speed will also further increase up to 55-60 kmph under the influence of the cyclonic storm.
In view of the rough weather condition, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea as a precautionary measure. Those who are already in the sea must return immediately for their safety, he said.

The MeT office has already stated that the system is likely to further intensify into a deep depression and move northwestwards, and then recurve and move north-northeastwards during subsequent 3 days towards Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts.
The IMD has also forecast the system’s probable track and intensity of the system and is likely intensification into a cyclonic storm by October 24. If this system intensifies into cyclone, it will be called Hamoon, a name given by Iran.
Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds very likely over Kerala on October 22-23 and light to moderate rainfall at isolated places with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning over Tamil Nadu on October 22.

Coast districts of Odisha are also likely to experience light to moderate rainfall at a few places on Monday and at many places on October 24 and 25.
