(Watch) Odisha Rapper Samal Babu’s ‘Brahmapur Anthem’ To Know Ganjam’s Food & Culture

Berhampur: A 23-year-old boy has become the talk of the town here with his rap song based on the food, culture and daily life of Ganjam district.

Sambit Samal, popularly known as Samal Babu recently release his debut rap song ‘Brahmapur Anthem’ on the YouTube channel ‘Discover Brahmapur’.

Sambit is also the lyricist and composer of the song.

Although Sambit is working in the postal department and preparing for competitive exams simultaneously, music and creative writing have been an all-time passion for him.

“People address me as Samal Babu at my workplace since my surname is Samal. I quite like it, so I retained if for my rap music,” said Sambit.

The 3.28-minute song begins with, ‘Swargiya Ananda Jadi Thare Paibara Aachhi, Bulijaa Brahmapura Mati’, showcasing popular food of Berhampur like ‘Jhal Muri’ (spicy puffed rice salad), pickle, papad, and Ghuguni, etc.

It also showcases and explains about Gopalpur beach, temples, and the festivals of Berhampur.

Through his song, Sambit conveys that Berhampur is a city of brotherhood and also a business hub.

“The people of Berhampur never forget their culture and tradition. During Kumar Purnima every year, all of them gather at one place and celebrate the festival,” said Sambit.

The song was recorded at Bhubaneswar’s Somesh Studio.

Sambit plans to showcase the culture and tradition of Berhampur as well as Odisha through his music.

“I started my job after completing BSc. But my aim is to be a rapper,” said Sambit.
