[Watch] Police Stop SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav During ‘Padyatra’ To UP Assembly

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party Chief and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav was stopped by cops during his ‘Padyatra’ to the UP Assembly on Monday in Lucknow. The SP Chief along with his MLAs and MLCs were en route to the UP Assembly from the Samajwadi Party office in the Hazratganj area when cops stopped them. The SP leaders immediately staged a sit-in protest over the police action, News18 reported.

Police officers alleged that the SP leaders hadn’t taken permission, but were nevertheless assigned a designated route which wouldn’t have caused traffic congestion, but claimed that the leaders refused to take that. “We’ve no option but to stop them here. If they take the designated route, there won’t be a problem,” Jt CP(Law & Order) Piyush Mordia was quoted as saying.

The Samajwadi Party MLAs and MLCs had gathered at the SP headquarters earlier this morning from where the group began their march to the UP Assembly led by SP Chief and Leader of Opposition Akhilesh Yadav. The group of SP lawmakers led by Akhilesh Yadav were scheduled to enter the UP Assembly from gate number one.

Commenting on the march, UP Deputy CM KP Maurya was quoted as saying, “SP’s protest is not related to the benefit of common people. If they want to discuss this, they are free to do it in the Assembly. Our govt is ready for discussions. SP is jobless now, they’ve nothing to do. Such protests will only create problems for people.”

A few days ago, the SP Chief and party leaders were put under house arrest after they announced a protest at the statue of Chaudhary Charan Singh inside the UP Assembly. After this, the SP Chief announced that heand his MLAs will walk to UP Assembly to raise their voices on several issues.

The Monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh assembly is set to begin today (Monday).
