New Delhi: Since Rahul Gandhi is no longer a Member of Parliament (MP), he can’t keep occupying the government-provided bungalow.
A notice was issued to disqualified Member of Parliament (MP) Rahul by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Monday reminding him about the rule on ‘Retention of Regular Accommodation’.
The Congress leader was disqualified as an MP after being convicted and sentenced to a two-year jail term by a lower court in Gujarat court in a defamation case.
According to the notice, Rahul can retain his Tughlaq Lane bungalow upto a maximum period of one month after being disqualified as an MP (from Wyanad, Kerala). Hence, Rahul has to vacate his bungalow by April 22.
Rahul’s team claimed they had not received the notice yet. The Congress has asserted that Rahul will file an appeal against the judgment of the Surat court.
There is another technicality attached with the eviction. As a recipient of ‘Z-Plus’ security, Rahul is entitled to government accommodation, experts pointed out.
It remains to be seen how matters unfold in the next few weeks.
