Mumbai: Actress and choreographer Dhanashree Verma, ex-wife of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, rubbished reports of Rs 60 crore alimony demand in the Ashneer Grover’s reality show ‘Rise and Fall’.
When host Aditya Narayan asked Dhanashree how long it had been since her divorce, she said, “Officially, it has been almost a year. It happened quickly because it was mutual, that’s why when people say alimony, it’s wrong. Just because I am not saying anything, you will go on saying anything? My parents have taught me to only justify to people whom I care about. Why waste time explaining those who don’t even know you?”
She continued, “We were married for four years, we dated 6-7 months before that. Eventually, you get hurt when you see that happening. It was not needed. None of it is true. I felt worse wondering why did he do it? It’s okay, I will always keep his respect, that is what I believe in. Now, I don’t think I can date anybody.”
She has been seen revisiting her separation and divorce with the cricketer from time to time in the show for which she was criticised by Aahana Kumra. “Yeh baar baar 2-2 minute mein Dhanashree kyun aapne divorce ke baat karti rehti hai (Why does Dhanashree keep bringing up her divorce every two minutes)? She needs to stop. We are applauding her, but this, ‘I am divorced, and all of this is happening with me’—come on, stop the sob story. You are here to play the game; don’t play the victim card.”
Earlier, Dhanashree also broke down when fellow participant Akriti Negi revealed that Aahana had passes comments questioning her character, suggesting she “clings to men” inside the penthouse, and said that she felt unsafe speaking to anyone.
Chahal and Dhanashree got married in 2020. However, after four years of marriage, the couple fell out of love and their divorce is one of the most talked-about divorces in the sports and entertainment industry.
Chachal t-shirt with the slogan saying, “Be your own sugar daddy”, during the divorce proceedings was seen as a dig at Dhanashree amid rumours that she demanded a huge alimony from the cricketer, a claim that her family later refuted.
The cricketer later admitted that he wanted to give out a message. “Mereko nahi karna tha drama (I didn’t want to do any drama). I just wanted to give one message and maine woh de diya (which I gave through the T-shirt),” he said during a chat with Raj Shamani on his YouTube channel.
He also spoke about the financial settlement during the divorce, saying that the negotiation process was difficult. “I had signed a good deal,” Chahal said.
