Bhubaneswar: Wife and daughter of former Chief Minister Hemananda Biswal were injured after the car in which they were travelling crashed into another vehicle near Handapa on National Highway 55 in Odisha’s Angul district.
The accident took place at around 4.30-5 pm when Congress leader Amita Biswal, her mother Urmila Biswal and 14-year-old daughter were en route to Bhubaneswar from Jharsuguda. They have been admitted to Angul district headquarters hospital. Urmila is said that sustained injuries on her head and is likely to be referred to Cuttack for treatment, sources said.
Former minister Amar Satpathy and former legislator Prabhat Tripathy were reportedly travelling in the other car.
Police have seized both vehicles and started an investigation.
Hemananda Biswal was the first tribal chief minister of Odisha. He served as the CM from December 7, 1989, to March 5, 1990, and again from December 6, 1999 to March 5, 2000. He was elected as MP of Sundargarh on a Congress ticket in the 2009 election. He died in February 2020 while undergoing treatment for pneumonia in Bhubaneswar at the age of 82.
Amita had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Assembly elections from Sundargarh constituency.
