Nayagarh: Police have arrested the wife and son of a forester, whose half-burnt body was recovered from his residence in Odisha’s Nayagarh town on Saturday.
The deceased, Sishir Sahu, was a forester in Sarankul Pancharida range of Nayagarh district.
According to Nayagarh SDPO Jyoti Ranjan Samantaray, the arrest followed a crime scene recreation. The incident occurred at their home in Baramasidanda area on Friday night, where the forester’s wife Namita, with his son Abhisek’s assistance, allegedly poured petrol on Sahu and set him on fire after a heated argument. Namita sustained minor burn injuries, while Abhisek remained unharmed in the fire incident.
“During interrogation, Sahu’s wife and son confessed to the crime. Family dispute is suspected to be the reason behind the incident. The forester was not visiting home regularly,” the SDPO told PTI.
Sahu mostly stayed at his place of posting and slept in the car at night when visiting home.
It was earlier alleged that the accused duo attempted to stage a premeditated murder over his alleged extramarital affair as a fire accident. The son had then claimed his mother poured petrol on his father during an argument and ignited it, with evidence suggesting that Sahu ran through the house as more petrol was used to ensure his death. Fire marks were found throughout the house, from the living room to the kitchen and bedrooms.
