New Delhi: Union Parliamentary Affairs minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday assured Opposition parties that the Central government is ready to hold discussions on key issues, including Operation Sindoor, during the monsoon session of Parliament which begins on July 21.

Rijiju, who spoke to mediapersons after an all-party meeting, said that the Centre will not shy away from any topic and is committed to running the House smoothly.

“We are open to discussing important issues like Operation Sindoor in Parliament. There must be coordination between the government and the Opposition to ensure proper functioning of the House,” Rijiju said.

What about the repeated claims of Donald Trump on the US facilitating a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan in May, an issue which the Congress and other parties have been raising?

Rijiju’s response was that the government will address all questions inside Parliament, not outside. “We will respond appropriately during the Parliament,” the minister stated.

Rijiju said that the government is prepared to table 17 bills during the monsoon session and will respond to all queries during debates. “We are ready for discussions with an open heart. We value rules and parliamentary traditions,” assured BJP’s Lok Sabha MP from West Arunachal Pradesh contituency.

He informed reporters 54 members from 51 political parties attended the meeting, which he said was ‘constructive’.

All sides — NDA, UPA (INDIA bloc), and independents — shared their views and sought debates on various issues.

Rijiju said the Centre has taken note of their points and urged the ruling party and Opposition to work together. “We may belong to different ideologies, but ensuring that Parliament runs properly is everyone’s responsibility – Opposition’s as well as Government’s,” Rijiju said.

Justice Verma impeachment issue

On the Justice Yashwant Verma issue, Rijiju said more than 100 MPs have signed a motion seeking his impeachment, which the government plans to bring forward during the upcoming Parliament session.

“The government will bring an impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma in this session. MPs have signed the motion for impeachment. Timeline can’t be told right now.. we will decide and inform everyone,” he said.
