Bengaluru: A bizarre case has emerged in which a newly-wedded woman in Bengaluru has allegedly demanded Rs 2 crore from her husband for not having a physical relationship with her on the first night they spent together and in the weeks that followed.
Her husband Praveen K M has lodged a complaint with the police, in which he alleged that he had been assaulted by his in-laws.
Praveen, a resident of Govindaraj Nagar is originally from Chikkamagaluru. On May 5, he married Chandana on May 5 in Tarikere, Chikkamagaluru. The couple subsequently began residing in Saptagiri Palace, Bengaluru.
According to India Today, Praveen hesitated to consummate the marriage on the first night, prompting Chandana to urge him to undergo medical tests. Doctors later confirmed that he was physically fit but advised him to take time due to mental stress.
Despite this, Chandana allegedly pressured Praveen and demanded Rs 2 crore as compensation for his failure to have a sexual relationship even after three months of marriage.
Praveen claimed in his complaint that her family members forcibly entered his Govindaraj Nagar residence on August 17 and assaulted him and his relatives. Following the incident, Praveen lodged a formal complaint at the local police station. Investigations are underway.
Praveen’s parents had sought a suitable bride for him early in 2025 and arranged his marriage with Chandana. They fulfilled all the demands of the bride’s family. A housewarming was held in Bengaluru, and the first night ceremony was organised at Praveen’s aunt’s house on May 16. However, physical intimacy did not occur due to Praveen’s mental and physical stress, with subsequent days similarly affected.
The complaint states that Chandana began to quarrel with Praveen, insulted him, and allegedly spread defamatory remarks within the family. She reportedly involved her relatives, who allegedly barged into Praveen’s house on multiple occasions, shouting, abusing, and intimidating him and his family.
On June 5, around 15 to 20 relatives allegedly gathered at the house, held a panchayat, and demanded that property worth Rs 2 crore be transferred to Chandana. Praveen requested time to resolve the issue.
On August 17, Praveen alleges that Chandana and her relatives launched a violent assault when he returned from a temple. The group allegedly caused injuries to him, damaged property, and blocked access to the house. CCTV footage and medical reports have been submitted as evidence.
Praveen’s complaint states that despite informing Chandana about his inability to engage in sexual activity due to stress, she allegedly defamed and insulted him with the support of her family, harassing him and demanding substantial compensation. Legal action has been sought against Chandana and ten other family members.
