Bhubaneswar: A family on Friday approached the Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) in Bhubaneswar, seeking justice for their deceased daughter, who was found hanging from a tree in Odisha’s Koraput last month.
According to her family members, the young woman left home to meet her boyfriend, a local youth, on April 17 and did not return home. She was found hanging from a tree at Nilaguda village near Gumurijhola in Boipariguda tehsil, a day later. Following which, her family lodged a complaint with Boipariguda police, alleging that she was murdered.
Though the youth was later arrested for his alleged role in her disappearance and murder, the woman’s family members claimed that they were being pressurised to withdraw their police complaint. “The youth’s parents are rich and influential. They are trying to suppress the matter. Her family members are being threatened with dire consequences,” the deceased woman’s lawyer, Kalyani Sen, told a local news channel.
The deceased’s father alleged that his daughter was attacked with acid and he suspects involvement of more people in the crime. Though they have informed police about receiving threats, no action has been taken, he added.
