Cuttack: Tension prevailed in Odisha’s Cuttack city after a woman home guard was crushed to death under the wheels of a truck on Taladanda road stretch in the busy Chhatra Bazaar area on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Manorama Panda, who was deployed at Malgodown police station.
According to sources, a speeding truck ran over her in the busy marketplace when she was returning home on her bicycle after buying groceries. She sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.
Police soon reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. The truck has been seized and the driver detained for questioning. Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo also visited the accident site to assess the situation. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
It is being alleged that the helper of the truck was behind the wheels at the time of the accident.
