Woman Maoist Surrenders Before Malkangiri Police

Malkangiri: A woman Maoist, K Lakshmi alias Sweta alias Kumari, surrendered before Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena at the district police headquarters here on Thursday afternoon.

Talking to mediapersons, the SP said Kumari was working in Gumma Area Committee of Malkangiri-Koraput-Visakhapatnam Border Division under Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) from 2008 to 2018.
She was carrying a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head.
Kumari was reportedly involved in Damanjodi attack on April 12, 2009, exchange of fire near Daudaput on September 14, 2014, and near Jamjodi on September 3, 2014, murder of two persons of Silakota village on January 25, 2014, exchange of fire near Gobarpada village on June 20, 2015, and near Ramaguda on October 24, 2016, murder of Kattama, a tribal of Gusumpadar village, on December 12, 2016, torching of a JCB machine near Pipalpadar village on December 19, 2017, and a JCB machine and a proclain machine near Mudulipada village on December 17, 2017.
The SP said Kumari will be rehabilitated as per the surrender and rehabilitation scheme of the Odisha government. “She will get financial assistance for building house, pursuing studies and training in a trade or vocation of her choice,” he said.
As per reliable sources, Dhananjaya Gope alias Sudhir, husband of Kumari and an area committee member of Gumma Area Committee of MKVB Division, is also willing to surrender before the police, he added.
