Missing Woman From West Bengal Reunites With Family In Odisha’s Puri After Decade

Puri: Shankar Bhagat could never believe that would find his wife Tara who had gone missing from their West Bengal home 10 years back. A native of Bolpur in West Bengal, he arrived in the city to pick up his wife on Thursday. Shankar and his children had performed Tara’s last rites thinking her to be dead.

Shankar told The New Indian Express (TNIE) that his wife was undergoing treatment for psychiatric ailments when she went missing from home.

One day, a family friend told Shankar that he had seen Tara’s picture on social media. It had been posted by a Puri-based organisation ‘Hope is Life’. Shankar immediately recognised Tara.

Upon further investigation, they found that Tara was living in an old-age home here as the efforts of the police to trace her family had been in vain.

Secretary of the organisation Suresh Kumar Nanda, told TNIE that Tara, now 65 years old, could not give much information on how she ended up in Puri. She told the volunteers that she reached Puri by train and had darshan of Lord Jagannath. She then stayed with a servitor family after which she was taken to the old-age home with the help of the organisation where she lived for 10 years, he added.
