Nuapada: Hundreds of women belonging to several self-help groups ransacked a foreign liquor shop at Bijapur in Nuapada district on Friday.
According to reports, the women armed with sticks and brooms destroyed the liquor shop and liquor bottles kept inside it. The agitators alleged that the district officials had failed to pay any heed to their demand to close the liquor shop despite repeated requests.
After receiving information regarding the incident, a police team rushed to the spot immediately and asked the protestors to refrain from vandalism.
Later, excise sleuths reached the spot and sealed the liquor shop.
