YATS Students Back After ISRO Visit

Bhubaneswar: The winners of the Young Astronomer Talent Search (YATS) 2017-18 got back from their exciting week-long exposure trip to the Space Application Centre (SAC) of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Ahmedabad.

A total of 20 school students from across the state had bagged the opportunity to visit to ISRO in the YATS 11th edition. YATS was started in 2007 with an aim to create awareness in the field of astronomy and space science among students and motivate and encourage the young minds to become Scientists and Astronomers.

It is an initiative of Tata Steel, in association with Pathani Samanta Planetarium under the Science and Technology Department, Government of Odisha, for high school students of the state.

The team comprising of equal number of girls and boys, each accompanied by her/his guide teacher, visited various laboratories of SAC Ahmedabad and interacted with the scientists-in-charge who explained the finer details of the research work they were engaged in.

During his interaction with the students, SAC, ISRO, Ahmedabad director Tapan Misra praised the efforts of Tata Steel and the planetarium for undertaking such an initiative and facilitating a unique experience for the students. The students also visited Gujarat Science City in Ahmedabad.

The exposure visit was flagged off by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on June 07, 2018.
