Yogi govt may scrap SP’s Cycle project, after Samajwadi pension scheme

Lucknow: The newly elected BJP government has started revising schemes of SP government. First, the BJP dropped Samajwadi name from schemes, then scrapped the Samajwadi Pension Scheme and now may also order dismantling of the Cycle tracks constructed in big cities of the state.

The work began with a scheme in Lucknow. The project aimed at giving the city the largest cycle path network in India, covering up to 270 kilometres.

On 1st March 2015, the first cycle track in Lucknow was inaugurated at Kalidas Marg.

However, cycle tracks have become big obstruction in the traffic movement as those were constructed on roadside.

It is believed that in order to widen the roads for improving traffic scenario, the cycle tracks will be removed. As of now, construction of new tracks have been stopped.

The roads were already narrow and over it these cycle tracks were constructed giving tough time to the commuters daily.

Interestingly, these are rarely used by the cyclists instead it has become hotspot for the street vendors for operating their business.
