Berhampur: A youth allegedly attempted suicide after killing a newly-wed woman at Ekaradabadi under Buguda police limits in Ganjam district late on Wednesday.
According to available information, the youth of nearby Karadabadi Sahi barged into the woman’s house and slashed her throat with a sharp weapon, killing her on the spot.
Later, the accused also tried to kill himself in a similar fashion.
Hearing noises from the house, neighbours rushed to the spot and found the youth lying in a pool of blood. They admitted him to Aska hospital in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, police reached the village and started inquiry after collecting the statements of villagers, who suspect the incident to be the fallout of past enmity over love affair.
The woman along with her husband had reportedly gone to her parents’ house some ten days after marriage.
