Berhampur: A young man was allegedly hacked to death in a violent clash between two groups during Ganesh ‘visarjan’ (immersion) at Gotha village under Seragada police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam districts late on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Chandan Bisoi, who lived in a rented accommodation in Kankarada village.
According to sources, Bisoi along with some youths created ruckus in front of the residence of Gothagam sarpanch Krushna Suasia. This led to a conflict, which escalated quickly into a violent scuffle during which Bisoi was fatally attacked with sharp weapons.
Police have seized the body for postmortem and launched an investigation into the incident, which is suspected to be the fallout of past enmity. Several sharp weapons were also seized from the spot.
