Puri: A 13-year-old girl consumed poison after a youth allegedly tried to sexually assault her in Satyabadi area of Odisha’s Puri district, police sources said on Sunday.
The parents found her unconscious at home last night and rushed her to a government community health centre. She was later shifted to Puri district headquarters hospital and then to a hospital in Bhubaneswar. “Doctors confirmed that she had consumed poison but her condition is now stable,” a police officer said.
In the complaint at the Balanga police station, her parents alleged that Aju Pradhan tried to rape the minor girl and also threatened her of dire consequence of she disclosed the matter to anyone. The girl managed to escape from his clutches and reached home, where she consumed pesticide. She then called her father over the phone and informed him about the matter.
Police have been launched and raids are underway at multiple locations to apprehend the accused.
