Cuttack: A day after a 17-year-old girl was crushed to death under a steel pipe at a box drain project site in Odisha’s Cuttack, the Housing and Urban Development department (H&UD) initiated action and suspended two engineers on Wednesday.
The department has placed two Assistant Engineers of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) under suspension for dereliction of duty in the aftermath of the tragic incident that took place at the box drain project site at Gamadia near Kesarpur in the millennium city on Tuesday.
According to an order issued by Principal Secretary, H & UD department, the two assistant engineers of CMC, Sanjeeb Kumar Pradhan and Dillip Kumar Pradhan, have been placed under suspension for non-performance and dereliction in duty.
Disciplinary proceedings under major penalty against Dillip Kumar Sahoo and Sanjeeb Kumar Pradhan, Assistant Engineers in CMC, is contemplated for dereliction in Government duty by them during their respective incumbencies, the orders stated.
The two engineers have been placed under suspension with immediate effect in terms of Rule-12(1)(a) of the O.C.S (CC&A) Rules, 1962 until further orders, as per the orders.
Meanwhile, an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh has been sanctioned for the family of the girl, said Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Mayor Subash Chandra Singh.
