24 Teachers Fired In Odisha’s Nabarangpur For Absenting From Duty For 12 Years

Bhubaneswar: Twenty-four school teachers in Nabarangpur district have lost their jobs for absenting from duty for 12 years. The district collector of Nabarangpur has issued an order in this regard.

According to reports, 31 teachers have been absent from their duties for about 12 years without any authorisation. Taking note of the anomaly, the School & Mass Education Department directed the district officials to issue show-cause notices to these teachers.

Only seven of these teachers had replied to the show cause notices served to them. While one teacher resigned from service, six others cited various reasons justifying their absence.

Not satisfied with their responses, the District Education Officer recommended their disengagement from service to the district collector.

“In total, there were 31 such truant teachers. One of them had resigned from his job as he got a better job somewhere. We had served show-cause notices to the rest 30 teachers. Of them, six teachers submitted their replies but the remaining 24 neither turned up nor responded to the notices. So, they have been dismissed,” said DEO, Nabarangpur, Pradeep Kumar Nag.

The action comes in the wake of the Education Department officials in Malkangiri district disengaging 10 teachers from service on similar grounds.
