Berhampur: The authorities of MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district have opened the second gate of the campus after 10 years.
This gate, situated in front of the Mardaraj Vending Zone, was closed earlier due to security reasons. “The gate has been opened permanently and the public can use it to enter or exit from the hospital,” said Prof Dr Abanikanta Mishra, Dean, MKCG Hospital. The opening of the second gate would also facilitate the Fire personnel who can use it with ease.
The main gate of MKCG Hospital, which was earlier the only entry and exit point, experienced traffic congestion almost all the time. With opening of the second gate, the traffic congestion at the main gate is expected to lessen.
However, the third gate of MKCG Hospital in front of the New Bus Stand, which has been closed for the last 10 years, is still to reopen. Advocate Siba Prasad Mishra, who had started dharna earlier to open the third gate, said opening of the second gate is a welcome step. But the distance between the main gate and the second gate is a few meters.
“The MKCG authorities must take steps to open the third gate to facilitate the ambulance, patients and others who come from Bhanjanagar, Aska, Hinjilicut, Kukudakhandi, Digapahandi, Gate Bazar and New Bus Stand area. Due to its closure, the ambulance and the patients have to drive more than 4 km through rush road to enter the main gate,” Mishra said.
