Koraput: Three members of a family were killed after being hit by a lightning strike while they were working in a farmland at a village in Pottangi area of Odisha’s Koraput district on Wednesday.
As per sources, the incident took place at Kondhaputabandh village of Amphabali panchayat under Pottangi block. The deceased have been identified as Gemel Krishna, his daughter Gemel Kami, and another family member Gemel Tumbai.
While Krishna and his daughter died when lightning struck the tree under which they had taken shelter during a sudden thunderstorm. Gemel Tumbai, who was working in a nearby field, also died due to a lightning strike.
After receiving information, local social workers reached the spot and arranged for post-mortem at the Pattangi Community Health Centre.
The Tehsildar assured that steps would be taken for government assistance after investigation.
