Meanwhile, a truck coming from behind in high speed ran over them. Both Gitarani and Sudhansu died on the spot. Following the accident, the locals staged a rasta roko demanding action against the truck driver and compensation to the family of the victims.

A team from Industrial Estate police station went to the spot and pacified the agitated people. They registered a case and started investigation to trace the truck which fled after the mishap.

In the second incident, a middle-aged man of Sangada village was going on a bicycle on the NH to Balasore when a coal-laden truck ran over him, killing him on the spot. The locals managed to stop the truck as its driver was trying to flee after the accident.

Later, they handed over the truck driver in Balasore Sadar police station. They also resorted to rasta roko for compensation to the victim’s family.

In the third incident that took place early in the morning, a man was found dead by the locals on the National Highway at Phuladi. On being informed, Balasore police went to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The identity of the victim has not been ascertained.
